Optimity is legitimate, but it is better understood as a wellness engagement app with small, variable rewards than an app that pays cash for every step. It combines personalized step goals, Move Minutes, short quizzes, daily activities and challenges. Those actions earn Gems that can be used across a changing mix of gift cards, loyalty points, donations, offers, auctions and prize draws.
The main catch is uncertainty. Optimity does not publish a stable cash conversion rate for Gems, and many prizes are competitive rather than guaranteed. That makes an honest monthly earnings estimate impossible. If the health prompts are useful on their own, the rewards are a bonus. If you only want predictable money, Optimity is unlikely to satisfy you.
The quick verdict
Legit? Yes. The operator is Optimity Inc.
Availability: Canada and the United States on iPhone and Android.
Currency: Gems, with Stars used for leaderboard ranking.
Rewards: a changing mix that can include gift cards, loyalty points, charity donations, offers, auctions and prize draws.
Cash? No predictable cash wage or fixed cash-per-step rate.
Best for: people who value the habit prompts even before counting rewards.
Is Optimity legit, and who operates it?
Yes. Optimity is operated by Optimity Inc., the seller named on the current Canadian App Store listing and developer named on Google Play. Both stores show a maintained app, and Google Play listed an update on July 13, 2026 when checked.
Legitimacy only means it is a real service with real reward mechanisms. It does not guarantee that every user wins a prize or receives a specific gift card. Optimity says optional advertising helps fund gift-card rewards, while its official site also markets enterprise wellness and insurance engagement services. That business model explains why the app mixes health content, partner campaigns and incentives.
Canada and US availability
Optimity's official travel help article says the public app is available to users in Canada and the United States. This is supported by live Canadian and US App Store listings, plus regional Google Play listings.
Do not assume the Canadian and US catalogues are identical. The store description gives More Rewards Points as an example, a Canadian loyalty program, but uses broader wording for gift cards and other prizes. Partner offers, draw eligibility and available rewards can depend on country, account group and campaign terms. The in-app catalogue is the best source for what your account can use today.
How Optimity works
After creating an account, you connect a supported health source and let Optimity read activity data. The app sets a personalized daily step goal based on recent behavior. Its dynamic-goal guide says the target updates each Monday and will not rise above 7,000 steps. Hit it on consecutive days and the Step Streak reward rises from 10 Gems to a maximum of 50 Gems per day.
Steps are not the whole product. Current store listings say Optimity tracks steps and Move Minutes. Move Minutes represent broader active time and can feature in specific campaigns, such as a 2026 ParticipACTION challenge that awarded draw entries for logged Move Minutes. Availability and the way minutes count can depend on the connected device and campaign, so they should not be treated as a universal fixed-rate earning unit.
The Learn and Earn section uses short quizzes about nutrition, exercise, mental wellbeing and financial wellness. Other activities include guided stretches, exercise or mindfulness tasks, water logging, solo challenges and seven-day Step Together challenges with friends. Optimity's current earning guide says optional ads can double some rewards or issue extra Gems.
Gems, gift cards and prize draws
Gems are Optimity's spendable in-app points. Stars are different: Optimity says they determine leaderboard rank. Gems do not have a published, universal dollar value. The official reward pages describe gift cards, points toward loyalty cards and grand prizes, while the current store listing adds charitable donations and monthly special prizes.
Reward delivery is not always a simple shop transaction. Optimity's own 2026 site mentions auctions for gift cards, and official responses on the US App Store describe an auction plus raffle model. Optimity says unsuccessful bidders do not lose their Gems. Separate prize draws are chance-based, and its help centre says raffle winners are contacted by email after the draw.
Optimity also publishes a monthly reward spending limit. Its official rewards FAQ says the limit resets at the beginning of each month, but it does not publish one numeric cap on that page. We therefore cannot responsibly quote a universal monthly figure. Check the limit and terms displayed in your own account before accumulating Gems for a particular reward.
How much is Optimity realistically worth?
There is no defensible monthly dollar estimate from public official information. Gem totals vary with streaks, quizzes, challenges and ads. More importantly, redemption value varies by reward and some gift cards are awarded through auctions or raffles. A user who collects thousands of Gems has not necessarily earned an equivalent guaranteed cash balance.
The safest valuation is zero guaranteed cash, plus whatever reward you actually redeem or win. Do not assign Gems a dollar value until a specific in-app reward shows its cost and terms. Optimity may still provide value through reminders, education and motivation, but those benefits are personal rather than wages. Never spend extra time, money or sensitive data chasing a reward whose expected value is unclear.
Wearables and health integrations
On iPhone, the official listing names Apple Health and Fitbit. It requires iOS 13.0 or later. Google Play names Google Fit, Fitbit and Samsung Health, and Optimity's current help centre also has Garmin connection guidance. Apple Health users must allow access to Steps and Workouts. Sync delays, duplicate sources and permissions can affect totals, so use one primary source where possible and check that activity reaches Optimity before a challenge deadline.
Privacy, advertising and insurance context
This app handles more than a basic pedometer total. Apple's privacy label says data linked to identity may include health and fitness, location, contact information, user content, identifiers, usage data and diagnostics. It also says location, identifiers and usage data may be used to track users across other companies' apps and websites. Google Play says the app may share app activity with third parties, encrypts data in transit and supports deletion requests.
Optimity's privacy policy, updated March 6, 2024 when checked, deserves attention. It says third parties that buy Optimity services may receive aggregate reports. If an insurance carrier provides Optimity, the user explicitly agrees to share personal data supplied through the app and connected devices with that carrier so it can provide personalized advice and products. That does not mean every public-app user's identifiable health data is automatically sent to an insurer, but account route and consent matter. Review the policy, connected-device permissions and any partner-specific notice before enrolling.

What to watch

Alternatives and final verdict
Choose Optimity if you want Canadian or US wellness content, achievable personalized goals and varied incentives. Choose WeWard if you prefer a clearer points-to-reward path, or compare Sweatcoin for passive step conversion and a marketplace model. Fitcoin is the alternative for people who want runs, lifting, classes and other workouts to count, not only step-goal consistency.
Verdict: Optimity is legit and can be worth using for motivation, but not for reliable income. Its best features are the adaptive goal, quick learning and range of wellness actions. Its weakest point is reward predictability. Install it for the routine, then judge rewards only by what your regional account can actually redeem.
How we researched this review
We checked Optimity's official website, help centre, privacy policy, current Canadian and US Apple App Store listings, and Canadian and US Google Play listings on July 27, 2026. We prioritized current official descriptions over older third-party reviews. Where Optimity's public pages do not disclose a numeric cap, conversion rate or regional catalogue, we say so instead of estimating. This was desk research, not hands-on app testing.
Frequently asked questions
Is Optimity legit?
Yes. Optimity Inc. operates a maintained iPhone and Android app with documented earning, reward and privacy terms. Rewards are real, but availability and outcomes vary.
Is Optimity available in the United States?
Yes. Optimity's help centre names Canada and the US as supported regions, and current official US listings are live on both major mobile stores.
Does Optimity pay cash?
Not as a predictable cash-per-step app. Gems can lead to rewards or prize opportunities, but normal activity does not create a guaranteed withdrawable cash balance.
How do you earn Gems on Optimity?
Reach daily step goals, build streaks, complete quizzes and daily activities, log water, join challenges, and optionally interact with ads. Offers can change by account.
Can Optimity connect to a smartwatch or health app?
Yes. Official sources document Apple Health, Fitbit, Google Fit, Samsung Health and Garmin support. Device permissions and synchronization still need to be configured correctly.
Keep comparing: apps that pay you to walk in Canada, US walking reward apps, and the best step counter apps that pay.
Disclosure: Fitcoin is a fitness rewards app and may be considered an Optimity alternative. This review was written from public sources and was not sponsored by Optimity. Reward catalogues, eligibility and terms can change.
