Best Pedometer App for iPhone (2026)

Fitcoin fitness rewards app on iPhone and Android, with Sleep, Recovery and Energy

The best pedometer app for iPhone is usually the one that does not pretend steps are a salary. iPhone already counts. Health already stores the total. A pedometer app is a bigger typeface, a streak, maybe a map. This page is that job. If you wanted gift cards for 10,000 steps, that is step counter apps that pay, a noisier search with ads and midnight claiming.

Search already sends us people asking for a step counter that pays. The head term is plainer: people typing best pedometer app and pedometer for iPhone. They want Pedometer++, Pacer, or whatever is already on the Home Screen. Pedometer by Fitcoin is the smaller Fitcoin app for that same job: today’s steps, a live walk when you want the map, and the friends you already have. It is coming soon on iPhone and Android.

Short verdict: Apple Fitness or Health is enough if a number is all you wanted. Pedometer++ is the classic for widgets and a clean goal. Pacer is the one with coaching-lite and groups. Pedometer by Fitcoin is for a live walk, friends, and the same wallet. Paying step apps are a separate category.

Disclosure: Pedometer by Fitcoin and Fitcoin are our products. We are not affiliated with Apple, Pedometer++, Pacer or StepsApp. Where our apps appear, it is ownership-disclosed. This is not a cash-out review and not medical advice.

Your iPhone is already a pedometer

Core Motion counts steps in the background. Health shows them. Fitness shows Move. You do not need a third-party app to know whether you walked today. You need one if Health’s UI bores you, if you want a 10k badge that is not a ring, or if you want GPS on a specific walk.

Accuracy, briefly: a pocket or a Watch on the wrist is usually good. A handbag is less so. Pushing a trolley is mixed. Holding the phone to your face on a call while walking, it still usually ticks. A few hundred steps of difference between two apps is normal, not a scandal.

Let Health be the ledger

Every decent iPhone pedometer should read Health, not invent a second count you then argue with. If Pedometer++ says 9,412 and Fitness says 9,380, you have two UIs on one store. Prefer apps that treat Apple’s total as the ledger.

Widgets belong on this list. A number you never open the app for is the whole point of a pedometer. Pedometer++ still wins a lot of Home Screens for that reason. Fitness already has rings. Pedometer by Fitcoin is for people who wanted the Fitcoin look, not another ring.

The short list (2026)

AppBest if you…Skip if you…
Apple Health / FitnessJust want today’s steps and rings, no extra appWant a giant step number, a walk map, or a friends list that is only steps
Pedometer++Want the classic iPhone pedometer: widgets, goals, simple historyWant GPS routes or Fitcoin friends
PacerWant plans, communities, a bit of coaching around walkingHate accounts and extra chrome
StepsAppWant a clean counter and trends without a social layerWant live tracking
Pedometer by FitcoinWant a live map, streak, and the same friends and wallet as FitcoinWant a PayPal cash-out pedometer
Fitcoin (full app)Want steps plus gym, runs, FitScore and rewardsOnly wanted a pedometer

Pedometer++ still owns the pedometer-app muscle memory for a lot of iPhone users, and it does that job well. Pacer is the walking-club energy. Pedometer by Fitcoin is the Fitcoin version of the same idea: live map, streak, same friends. It is coming soon on iPhone and Android.

Watch versus phone

If you wear Apple Watch, Health will prefer that source for a lot of people and the day total looks less stupid on a desk day, when the phone sits on the table and the Watch stays on the wrist. Pedometer apps that only read the phone coprocessor will disagree with Fitness. Let Health be the ledger. Let the pedometer be the display.

Live GPS walks are the exception. Then you want an app that records the session: Fitcoin’s live map, Fitness’s Outdoor Walk, or Strava if you already live there. A background step total is not a route.

Paying step apps are a different list

Sweatcoin, CashWalk, Winwalk, WeWard and similar icons are reward apps. They count steps too, usually with a daily claim or an offer wall. If you want both a clean counter and rewards, use a tracker you like plus Fitcoin for workouts and steps together, or Pedometer by Fitcoin if you only wanted the small app.

Where Pedometer by Fitcoin sits

Home shows today’s total, the streak, and the last seven days. Start a walk or run and you get a live map, time, pace, and heart rate if Health has it. Activity keeps the sessions. Friends are the same Fitcoin people, ranked on today’s steps. Streak is 1,000 steps a day, separate from Fitcoin’s day streak. iPhone and Android are both coming soon; the app is with Apple for review.

If you already like Pedometer++ widgets, those still do that job. If you want a walking club, Pacer is built for that. Pedometer by Fitcoin is for people who want the Fitcoin look, a live route, and the same friends.

A few things that usually disappoint

  • Android APKs labelled as iPhone pedometers. Wrong store.
  • Icons that say ‘earn while you walk’ on a tracker search. Different category. See the paying roundup.
  • Apps that want your entire photo library to count steps. You do not need that for a step total.
  • Four pedometers at once. They will disagree a little, and you will spend the walk comparing them.

Who should install what

Health only: you already open Fitness. You may not need another app.

Pedometer++: you want widgets and a number, no social, no map.

Pacer: you want a plan and other humans walking.

Pedometer by Fitcoin: you already have a Fitcoin account, or you want the live route and the Fitcoin look without the full FitScore app. Coming soon on iPhone and Android.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best pedometer app for iPhone?

Apple Health is enough if you only want today’s steps. Pedometer++ is a strong fit if you want widgets and a simple goal. Pacer is a strong fit if you want plans and a community. Pedometer by Fitcoin is built for a live map, friends on the same wallet, and the Fitcoin look. One of those is usually plenty.

Is the iPhone step counter accurate?

In a pocket or on a waistband, it is usually good enough for a day total. In a bag, on a table, or swinging in a coat, it under-counts. An Apple Watch on the wrist beats a phone in a handbag. No consumer pedometer is a calibrated lab treadmill.

Do I need a pedometer app if I have Apple Health?

Only if you want a bigger number, a streak, a live walk, widgets, or friends. Health already stores the steps. The app is a front end.

Which pedometer app pays you?

That is a different list. Gift-card and cash-style step apps live on our paying step-counter roundup. This page is about trackers: a bigger number, a streak, maybe a map.

Is Pedometer by Fitcoin the same as Fitcoin?

No. Pedometer by Fitcoin is the smaller app for steps, live walks, streak and friends, and it is coming soon on iPhone and Android. Fitcoin is FitScore, workouts, challenges and the rewards shop. You can use the same account and the same wallet if you use both.

Method and sources: Written 15 August 2026 from Apple Health and Core Motion step-count behaviour on iPhone, public App Store listings for Pedometer++, Pacer and StepsApp, and Pedometer by Fitcoin’s Home / live walk / Activity feature set. Step accuracy depends on where you carry the phone and whether a Watch is worn. Store rankings, widgets and prices change. Confirm the live app. Fitcoin inclusion is ownership-disclosed. Not a cash-out pedometer review; that lives on the paying-step-counter URL.
