A leaderboard should make you want to move. Too often, it does the opposite. You open it, see somebody thousands of points ahead, and close it knowing the gap has almost nothing to do with what you do today.

Fitcoin Leagues are our answer. Instead of one endless table, every member competes in a focused weekly room against people in the same tier. Your steps and workouts build your FitScore, your position changes through the week, and Monday brings a clear result: promotion, survival or demotion.

It is simple enough to understand at a glance, but there is a lot of careful logic underneath it. Here is why we built Leagues and exactly how the system works.

Why we built Leagues

Most fitness leaderboards reward one thing: volume. The person who walks the most wins. That leaves a cyclist, lifter, runner or someone returning from an injury with a poor choice between chasing an unsuitable target and ignoring the table altogether.

Fitcoin already measures activity differently. FitScore brings steps and recorded workouts onto one daily scale from 0 to 20. Leagues use that same score, so a hard gym session, a run and an active day on your feet can all contribute without pretending every form of movement is identical.

We also wanted competition to feel winnable. You are not trying to catch every Fitcoin member. You compete in a room of up to 30 people at your current level. The table resets every week, old leads stop mattering, and one strong week can move you forward.

Ten tiers, one clear path

There are ten Leagues, beginning at Bronze and ending at Diamond. Each one has its own Heartforge crest. The heart remains at the centre as the surrounding form becomes sharper, rarer and more prestigious.

What decides your weekly position?

Your room is ranked by your FitScore across the previous seven completed days. In the app, that is shown as a seven-day daily average on the familiar 0 to 20 scale. A score of 12 means you averaged 12 FitScore per day. It does not mean you somehow earned 84 points on a scale that stops at 20.

That seven-day window keeps the ranking current while allowing for normal life. One quiet day does not erase an otherwise active week. At the same time, an old workout from months ago cannot hold your place forever.

Your room stays private to its competitors You see the people in your own weekly room, not member lists from other tiers or rooms. Your competition is the table you can actually affect.

How promotion and demotion work

League movement happens once a week, on Monday. Your tier does not change immediately when your FitScore crosses a threshold. Position matters, and everybody moves together at the weekly reset.

  1. The week closes. We total each member's FitScore from the seven completed days.
  2. Each room is ranked. The highest weekly scores occupy the promotion zone. The lowest occupy the demotion zone.
  3. Movement is applied. Promoted members move up one tier. Demoted members move down one tier. Everybody else stays.
  4. Fresh rooms are created. Members are shuffled into new, balanced rooms within their resulting tier for the next week.

Full room of 30

Top 10 move up. Bottom 5 move down.

Smaller room of 10

Top 3 move up. Bottom 2 move down.

The zones scale with the room. We promote no more than roughly one third and demote no more than one quarter, capped at ten promotions and five demotions. That prevents a small room from turning over almost everybody at once. The app calculates the real numbers for your current room, so it will not show "top 10" when only ten people are competing.

There are sensible limits at both ends. Nobody can be demoted below Bronze. Nobody can be promoted above Diamond. A zero-score week cannot earn promotion, even if a tiny room would otherwise place that member inside the promotion zone.

How your first tier is chosen

New members display as Bronze until their first weekly placement. At the Monday reset, we use the completed week's average FitScore to seed an appropriate starting tier. The 0 to 20 scale is split into ten two-point bands, from Bronze at the bottom to Diamond at the top.

That initial seed only happens once. After that, there are no shortcuts and no sudden jumps caused by crossing a score line. You can move a maximum of one tier each week, earned through your position in the room.

Leagues are not just another step table

The real point is not the crest. It is creating a weekly reason to make one better decision: take the walk, record the session, train with a friend or protect the place you earned.

A global all-time leaderboard tells most people they have already lost. Leagues give you a contest that starts again, a group small enough to matter, and a route from Bronze to Diamond that cannot be completed in an afternoon.
