Macadam App Review (2026): Is It Legit and Does It Pay?

July 22, 2026 • By Harris Khan • 9 min read

Fitcoin fitness rewards app on iPhone and Android

Macadam is a legitimate walking rewards app, but walking is only the start of its earning system. Steps produce coins, while games, surveys, cashback, adverts and challenges are offered as ways to move faster towards a reward.

The biggest catch is not whether Macadam pays. It does. The real questions are how slowly steps build your balance, whether you remember to validate them, and whether an eligible cash-out slot is available when you are ready.

Quick verdict

Macadam is real, polished and capable of paying genuine rewards.

It makes sense for regular walkers who enjoy gamified earning and do not mind opening the app every day.

It is less appealing if you want passive rewards, a simple fixed coin value or an unrestricted cash-out whenever your balance is ready.

  • Platforms: iPhone and Android.
  • Daily step ceiling: up to 20,000 steps can be validated.
  • UK withdrawals: primarily bank transfer, not PayPal.
  • Main catch: steps must be validated before midnight.
  • Cash-out catch: offers can open at a specific date and time, with availability depending on status and region.

How Macadam works

Macadam connects to activity recorded by your phone or compatible wearable. It groups step totals into milestones rather than paying a completely linear amount for every individual step.

You must open the app and validate your steps before midnight local time. If you validate at 2,500 steps and later reach 6,000, Macadam adds only the difference required for the higher milestone. The rewards do not stack as two separate milestones.

The current help centre says everyone can validate up to 20,000 steps a day, but some higher milestones depend on Crown status. The app also offers map coins, jackpots, challenges, games, surveys, referrals and partner cashback.

How much are Macadam coins worth?

There is no single conversion rate that every user can rely on. Macadam's terms define coins as virtual points without legal currency value. Their practical value comes from the reward offers shown to your account.

Crown status complicates the calculation further. Macadam separates Coins, which are spent on rewards, from Crowns, which determine Bronze, Silver or Gold status. Higher status can improve conversion rates, processing speed and access to offers.

Use your own catalogue: divide the coins needed for a reward by the coins you genuinely earn from steps each day. Do not base the calculation on somebody else's screenshot, because region and Crown status can change the result.

This also exposes an important distinction. Macadam can produce far more coins through games, surveys or shopping than through walking alone. That may be useful if your goal is earning, but it makes the app less useful as a pure reward for exercise.

How Macadam cash-outs work

Macadam's June 2026 guidance tells users to open the rewards area, choose an eligible offer and click it at the designated date and time. The offers shown depend on where you live, your coin balance and your Crown status.

UK and European users primarily receive cash through bank transfer. A bank withdrawal requires valid IBAN and BIC details, identity information and a photograph of ID. Macadam says PayPal is not available in the UK or European Economic Area. Outside Europe, PayPal may be offered instead.

Processing can take up to 15 working days. Public reviews include successful withdrawals, but also complaints about restricted redemption windows and offers becoming unavailable. That does not make the app fake, but it means reaching the coin requirement is not always the final step.

Is Macadam legit?

Yes. Macadam has established App Store and Google Play listings, published terms, a detailed support centre and users who report receiving cash and gift-card rewards.

The fair criticism is about friction and value, not basic legitimacy. A legitimate rewards app can still take months to produce a useful balance, require identity checks and make redemption available only at certain times.

Coins, Crowns and status

Coins and Crowns do different jobs. Coins buy rewards. Crowns raise your status from Bronze towards Silver and Gold.

Crowns can come from consistent validation, challenges, cashback and watching limited adverts. Higher status can unlock better conversion rates and more flexible cash-outs. This rewards long-term engagement, but it also means the headline experience for a new Bronze user may differ from reviews written by somebody at Gold.

Ads, games and surveys

Macadam is no longer just a pedometer with a cash button. Its earning layer includes mobile games, surveys, jackpots, advertising and shopping cashback.

Some users like having more ways to reach a payout. Others may find that the app starts to feel like a general rewards platform with walking attached. If your goal is fitness motivation, judge it on what steps alone produce before spending time on unrelated offers.

Privacy and verification

Macadam needs activity access to count steps. Its store description says GPS is not required for ordinary step tracking. As with any rewards app, check the current App Store or Play Store privacy disclosure before enabling optional features.

Cash withdrawals require more personal information than basic step tracking, including bank and identity details. Only submit these through Macadam's official in-app flow, never through an unsolicited message or unofficial website.

Who should use Macadam?

Macadam makes sense if:

  • You already walk daily and enjoy collecting milestones.
  • You want a route to real cash rather than discounts alone.
  • You are comfortable validating steps and waiting for an eligible withdrawal.

Look elsewhere if:

  • You want completely passive step rewards.
  • You expect meaningful income from walking alone.
  • You mainly lift, cycle, swim or do other exercise that is poorly represented by steps.

Macadam alternatives

WeWard also converts daily walking into rewards and offers cash in supported markets. Sweatcoin banks validated steps automatically but focuses more heavily on marketplace offers. CashWalk uses a simpler coin-and-gift-card model, although it also requires daily collection.

Fitcoin rewards steps and recorded workouts through one daily FitScore, making it a better fit when gym sessions, running, cycling and other exercise should count alongside walking. For a direct comparison, read Fitcoin vs Macadam.

Final verdict

Macadam is legitimate and more sophisticated than a basic paid pedometer. It offers real rewards, a clear status system and plenty of ways to build a balance. The cost is complexity. Daily validation, variable conversion, Crown levels and timed cash-out offers mean that earning coins is easier than predicting when those coins will become money.

Use it as a small motivational bonus for walking you already do, not as income. Before committing, inspect the reward catalogue available to your own account and calculate the value of steps alone.

This review uses Macadam's official store listings, terms and help-centre guidance available on July 22, 2026. Reward availability and conversion rates can change by account, status and country.
