Sweatcoin and Macadam both reward walking on iPhone and Android, but the destination is different. Sweatcoin automatically turns verified steps into an in-app currency for a changing marketplace. Macadam asks you to validate daily milestones, then offers eligible accounts bank transfers, PayPal cash-outs or prepaid cards. Choose by reward type, country and daily effort, not by whichever app displays the larger coin balance.
The verdict
Choose Macadam if cash is the point. Its official guidance supports real-money transfers, primarily bank transfer in Europe and the UK and PayPal outside Europe. The trade-off is a narrower 55-country footprint, nightly validation, Crown-based restrictions, timed offers and identity checks for bank withdrawal.
Choose Sweatcoin if low daily effort and international access matter more. It operates across more than 100 listed countries and converts verified steps without Macadam's before-midnight claim. Ordinary sweatcoins are not cash, however. They buy changing marketplace offers, some of which are discounts that require additional spending.

How each app rewards walking
Sweatcoin converts verified movement automatically. Its published model awards 0.95 sweatcoins per 1,000 verified steps after a 5% commission. Current official guidance says Free users earn ordinary sweatcoins on the first 10,000 daily steps, while Premium expands the window to 20,000. Verification filters movement that does not look genuine, so a phone's raw pedometer total and converted total can differ.
Macadam rewards the highest validated milestone reached that day. Its June 2026 guide says everybody can validate up to 20,000 steps, but some milestones are locked to Silver or Gold Crown status. If you validate at one milestone and later reach another, Macadam adds the difference for the better result. It does not pay every milestone again in full.
The daily behaviour is the decisive difference. Sweatcoin can bank eligible walking without a bedtime ritual. Macadam steps must be validated before midnight in the phone's local time. Miss the deadline and the walking coins cannot be recovered. If you regularly forget reward apps, Sweatcoin is likely to produce the more consistent balance even though Macadam has the clearer cash destination.
Marketplace rewards versus real-money cash-out
A sweatcoin is marketplace currency, not a pound or dollar balance. Sweatcoin says offers change at least daily. Some goods or services can be paid fully in sweatcoins, while discount offers still require payment to the partner in ordinary money. There is no fixed conversion that makes 1,000 sweatcoins worth the same amount for every user. Read the offer description, delivery cost and subscription terms before redeeming.
Macadam coins also lack a universal legal cash value, but eligible offers provide a route to money. Europe and UK residents primarily receive bank transfers using IBAN details. Macadam proposes PayPal outside Europe, and specifically says PayPal is unavailable in the EEA and UK. Prepaid gift cards may also appear. The exact menu depends on residence, balance and Crown status.
Cash is more flexible than a discount, but Macadam's path has gates. An offer can require selection at an exact date and time. Bank-transfer users provide bank details, identity information and an ID image. Processing may take up to 15 working days, with higher Crown status receiving faster service and potentially better conversion. A coin balance is therefore progress towards a possible withdrawal, not cash already earned.
Sweatcoins and the optional SWEAT wallet are separate
Sweatcoin's optional crypto layer often causes confusion. Ordinary sweatcoins stay inside the Sweatcoin app and spend in its marketplace. SWEAT is a separate cryptocurrency held in the separate Sweat Wallet. Sweatcoin's current help page says ordinary sweatcoins cannot be transferred or exchanged into SWEAT.
Users who opt in and install both apps can mint SWEAT from an eligible daily step window, subject to current minting rules and country restrictions. The token can move in price and may involve wallet, exchange, tax and fee considerations. That is not equivalent to Sweatcoin offering a PayPal button. Compare Macadam's cash-out with Sweatcoin's ordinary marketplace first, then evaluate crypto separately only if you understand the added risk.
Availability: 100+ countries versus 55
Sweatcoin publishes a list covering more than 100 countries across Europe, the Americas, Africa, Asia and Oceania. Macadam's official list contains 55 countries, including the UK, US, Canada, Australia, much of Europe and selected markets such as Brazil, Malaysia, Mexico and the Philippines. Both have iPhone and Android versions.
Download access does not guarantee equal rewards. Sweatcoin's marketplace is country-specific, and Macadam ties payment methods and offers to region. Check the store listing and live reward tab for your own account. If neither catalogue works where you live, use our global guide to apps that pay you to walk.
Daily friction, ads and extra tasks
Sweatcoin is more passive at the walking layer, but active use includes advert-supported daily rewards, spins and partner offers. Macadam requires the daily validation and offers games, surveys, challenges, jackpots, map activity, shopping cashback and advert videos. Macadam's Crown programme also rewards continued engagement, with Bronze, Silver and Gold levels affecting benefits.
Separate walking from marketing tasks when comparing value. A survey, game level or purchase may increase a balance faster, but it costs time, attention or money. Neither app supports a reliable income claim from steps alone. The useful test is simpler: does the small reward reinforce walking you already want to do without making you spend or share more than the reward is worth?
Privacy and payment verification
Sweatcoin's privacy material covers account, device, movement and health-platform data used to verify eligible activity and run the marketplace. It states that location data is not sold, while wider disclosures still cover advertising, marketing and device information. Verification may analyse movement patterns and other signals, so only grant the activity and location permissions needed for features you intend to use.
Macadam's policy lists daily steps, estimated energy, walking distance and geolocation, plus account and transaction records. It says health and geolocation data are pseudonymised after 24 months and non-transactional data is then deleted or anonymised by default. A cash withdrawal adds bank and identity information. Submit sensitive documents only through the official app, review optional survey or cashback providers separately, and disconnect health access if you stop using either service.
Which app is best for you?
Choose Sweatcoin if:
- You live outside Macadam's 55 supported countries.
- You want automatic conversion without nightly validation.
- You are happy with marketplace offers rather than direct cash.
- You will treat SWEAT as an optional, separate crypto decision.
Choose Macadam if:
- You want a bank, PayPal or prepaid-card route available to your region.
- You can reliably validate steps before midnight.
- You accept Crown restrictions, timed offers and withdrawal checks.
- You will judge value from your live account instead of a universal coin rate.
Macadam wins the cash-payout decision. Sweatcoin wins for reach and lower daily friction. For deeper detail, read our Sweatcoin review and Macadam review. Other useful matchups include WeWard vs Sweatcoin, WeWard vs Macadam and CashWalk vs Sweatcoin.
Frequently asked questions
Is Sweatcoin or Macadam better?
Macadam is better for users prioritising a real-money route. Sweatcoin is better for broad availability, automatic step conversion and people satisfied with marketplace rewards.
Can you cash out either app to PayPal?
Macadam proposes PayPal outside Europe. Europe and UK users primarily receive bank transfer, and PayPal is unavailable there under current guidance. Ordinary sweatcoins do not cash out to PayPal or a bank.
Do you have to validate steps every day?
Only Macadam has the strict nightly validation in this comparison. Validate before midnight or lose that day's potential coins. Sweatcoin automatically converts eligible verified steps.
Are sweatcoins and SWEAT the same?
No. Sweatcoins are in-app marketplace currency. SWEAT is an optional cryptocurrency held in Sweat Wallet. One cannot be converted into the other.
Can I use Sweatcoin and Macadam together?
Usually yes where both support your country. They process permitted activity separately, but Macadam still needs validation and each app has independent verification and account rules.
