Strava does not pay you. You pay Strava, or you use the free log and take kudos as the currency. The confusion is search: apps that pay you to run sits next to best running apps, and Strava wins the second so hard that people assume it wins the first. It does not. It is the training social network. Payday, when it exists at all, is a perk bolted on the side.
If you wanted a tracker roundup, see best running apps 2026. If you wanted the UK what-counts guide, see apps that pay you to run. This page is the money question.
Short verdict: Record in Strava because you like segments and mates. If you wanted cash, gift cards or partner discounts for the same session, export once into a rewards layer. Summit is still worth it for routes and analysis. It was never trying to be WeWard.
Disclosure: Fitcoin is our product. We are not affiliated with Apple, Garmin, Whoop, Bevel, Athlytic, HRV4Training or the other apps named here. Where Fitcoin appears, it is as a Sleep, Recovery and Energy companion that also scores workouts for partner rewards, not a PayPal cash-out app. Scores described below are wellness estimates for general fitness. They are not medical devices and they do not diagnose illness.
What Strava is
Free Strava lets you record, upload from Garmin, Apple Watch, Wahoo or the phone, give kudos, use some safety tools, and follow a social feed. Subscription prices in the US move; recent public figures sit around $80/year for an individual, with family and student SKUs and a 30-day trial on some plans. Summit adds routes, offline maps, deeper analysis, a fitness score over time, segment leaderboards, custom goals, longer history, Beacon on more devices, and member perks.
Those perks are discounts and partner trials, such as Runna bundles, insurance bits in some countries, and breathwork trials. That is your subscription buying deals. That is not your 10k buying a tenner.
The adiClub asterisk
In 2026 adidas and Strava told US and Canada adiClub members they could earn club points for GPS-tracked runs, walks, hikes and rides on Strava. Points go toward gear, events, giveaways, even a Strava sub; public copy mentioned a 60-day trial around 1,200 points and a year around 15,000. Confirm the live stories post. It is geo-fenced, not a UK salary, and not PayPal.
If you are in London googling this, adiClub is a headline from another market. Do not build a training year on a partnership that does not list your country.
Using Strava as the pipe into apps that do reward
Charity Miles can import bike and other modes via Strava. RIDO is built for cyclists connecting Strava or Garmin. Evidation lists Strava among sources. That pattern is the honest answer to does Strava pay: Strava verifies the session, and someone else puts a voucher on the end. See apps that pay you to cycle and Charity Miles.
Record once. If Garmin already pushes to Strava, a second GPS on the phone is extra noise. Duplicate activities confuse rewards APIs and your club chat.
Strava versus the payday apps
| Job | Strava | Sweatcoin / WeWard | Fitcoin |
|---|---|---|---|
| Log a run with mates | Yes. That is the product. | No | Running Mode plus clubs, not a segment culture |
| Pay you for steps | No | That is the pitch | Steps can feed FitScore, not a Ward |
| Count a gym session | If you log it; social first | Usually no | Yes, if Health has the workout |
| You pay them | Optional Summit | Optional premium, ads on free | Optional Premium; core scoring free |
Should you pay Summit?
Pay if you use routes, analysis or Beacon, or you are the family-plan household that actually shares. Skip it if you only open the feed to double-tap. Skip it if the only reason was hoping they would start paying you. They do not.
Runna bundles and coaching add-ons are training products. Judge them as coaching, not as cashback.
Frequently asked questions
Does Strava pay you to run?
No. Strava is a social training log. You can pay Strava for Summit features. Strava does not send PayPal for a 10k. Limited partner perks and a US and Canada adiClub points hook exist, and that is not a wage.
What is Strava adiClub?
A 2026 adidas partnership in which eligible US and Canada adiClub members can earn club points for GPS runs, walks, hikes and rides logged on Strava, redeemable toward adidas gear, events or even a Strava subscription. It is not global and it is not cash. Confirm the live stories page.
Is Strava Summit worth it if it does not pay?
Pay for routes, deeper analysis, longer history, Beacon and challenges if those are features you will actually open. Summit is a training product, not a walking-cash app.
Can Strava feed apps that do pay?
Often yes. Charity Miles, RIDO, Evidation and others import via Strava. Record the session once and reward it once. One rewards layer is plenty for the same ride.
Strava vs Sweatcoin?
Strava tracks the session. Sweatcoin tries to monetise steps. They do different jobs. Sweatcoin will not coach a segment, and Strava will not mint walking coins.
