Vitality points are insurance-programme points. They are not Wards, not Sweatcoins, not FitScore. You earn them because you bought a qualifying Vitality Health or Life plan, connected a tracker, and played inside daily and weekly caps. The Apple Watch benefit is the bit people actually Google: move enough, pay less (sometimes £0) on a 40-month watch agreement. That is a subsidy with homework, not a walking ATM.
This is not NHS walking rewards (Movement 26.2). It is not how much WeWard pays. It is not a quote for life cover. If you are shopping insurance, use Vitality and an adviser. If you are shopping a fitness app, stay here for the comparison.
Short verdict: If you already have Vitality, play their rules and take the watch discount when the table says you will. If you do not have Vitality, do not buy a policy to 'get paid to exercise'. Use a fitness app for training and rewards. Use an insurer for insurance.
Disclosure: Fitcoin is our product. We are not affiliated with Vitality, Discovery, Apple, or the other programmes named here. Nothing here is insurance advice, a personal recommendation, or a promise that you will qualify. Vitality tables below are from public UK pages as of May 2026 and will move. Confirm Member Zone.
How activity points work (public rules)
Vitality's UK Active Rewards copy, details marked as of May 2026: connect the Vitality UK app and a phone or partner tracker. Caps: 8 activity points a day, 40 a week. One tracker activity per day, the one that pays most. Typical step bands for adults: 7,000 steps for 3 points, 10,000 for 5, 12,500 for 8. Aged 70+ or a verified Vitality Age Gap of five years can have a 5,000-step / 3-point line. Partner gym visits: 5 points, with a separate membership-discount story. Heart-rate workouts: 5 or 8 points depending on duration and percent of age-related max HR (30 minutes at 70%, or longer at 60%, in the published table). parkrun: 8 points for a 5k finish that counts toward Active Rewards on eligible plans.
Weekly Pick style rewards (coffee, cinema, the usual suspects) open when you hit a weekly gate, publicly 12 points in a week, with a four-week streak for the richer menu on Vitality Plus. Exact partners rotate. The member app is the source of truth, not a blog from 2022.
The Apple Watch benefit, without the advert music
You take an eligible plan, pass a credit check, buy a qualifying Watch through Vitality on a 40-month 0% APR agreement (Novuna / Mitsubishi HC Capital UK in the current legal copy), pay an upfront chunk that depends on model, then earn points so Vitality covers more of the monthly instalment.
Public Series 11 / SE 3 table: 160 points in a month (the 12,500 steps, five days a week example) is listed at £0 that month. 120 points £2.50 / £1.50. 80 points £5 / £3. 40 points £7.50 / £4.50. Under that, up to £10 / £6. Channel Islands excluded. One Watch benefit per plan at a time. Soft search for eligibility. If you stop moving, you still owe the contribution, not a mystery fee from Fitcoin.
This is why Vitality is not WeWard. The 'pay' is a cheaper Watch you were going to wear, plus coffee vouchers, plus maybe gym cashback, inside an insurance product. Miss the points and the Watch becomes a normal financed gadget.
Versus fitness reward apps
| Question | Vitality UK | WeWard / Macadam / Evidation | Fitcoin |
|---|---|---|---|
| Why you have it | You bought insurance | You installed a walking app | You installed a training + rewards app |
| Daily cap | 8 activity points | App-specific coins / Wards / points | FitScore scale, not an insurer cap |
| Gym / swim / ride | HR workout rules and gym partners | Usually steps only | Recorded workouts via Health |
| Cash | No. Device and partner discounts | Sometimes PayPal / bank / Tremendous | Partner catalogue, not a salary |
| Who should skip | People without a Vitality plan | People who wanted gym credit | People who wanted an insurer Watch deal |
Using Vitality and a fitness app without mixing the ledgers
Same Watch can feed Vitality and Apple Health. Vitality wants the Vitality UK app link. Fitcoin wants Health permissions. Fine. Do not chase 12,500 steps for Vitality by wrecking a Recovery day, then blame Athlytic. Do not skip a strength session because it is 'only 5 Vitality points' if the session was the actual training.
If Vitality's 12,500-step example is turning you into a pavement addict, remember the heart-rate workout lines exist. A 30-minute session at 70% max HR is in the 8-point column. That is the adult way to be a member who also lifts.
Quick: Vitality is not the NHS
NHS Movement 26.2 is a public walking challenge with badges and whatever vouchers that scheme actually ships. That article is the government-shaped SERP. This one is Discovery's UK insurer. Google mixes them because both say 'reward' and 'walk'. They do not share a balance.
If a broker sent you here, close the tab and read Vitality's own terms. If a fitness forum sent you here, do not buy life cover to beat WeWard's ads. That is how you get an expensive coffee voucher.
Frequently asked questions
How do Vitality UK activity points work?
Members connect a phone or eligible tracker and earn points for steps, partner gym visits and heart-rate workouts, with a maximum of 8 points a day and 40 a week. Tables change. Confirm the member app. This is insurance-programme currency, not a Fitcoin balance.
How many steps for Vitality Apple Watch payments?
Vitality's published Apple Watch benefit table (as of May 2026) uses monthly activity points. Examples: 12,500 steps a day, five times a week, is listed at 160 points and £0 that month on the watch instalment. Lower activity raises the monthly contribution, up to about £10 for Series 11 in that table. Confirm live terms.
Is Vitality the same as the NHS walking scheme?
No. NHS Movement 26.2 is a public walking challenge. Vitality is a paid insurance programme with Active Rewards, device benefits and underwriting. Different SERP, different money.
Can I use Fitcoin and Vitality together?
Yes. Vitality wants its own partner trackers and the Vitality UK app. Fitcoin wants Apple Health or Health Connect for FitScore. They can share a Watch. They should not share a brain. Do not expect Vitality points to appear in Fitcoin.
Does Vitality pay cash for workouts?
It discounts devices, gym, coffee and cinema-style Active Rewards when you hit weekly point gates. It is not PayPal for 10,000 steps. WeWard still exists for that job, with all the ads that come with it.
