No, Winwalk does not pay cash. It pays in digital gift cards, and walking alone is worth about £1.50 a month in the UK or $1.88 a month in the US if you hit 10,000 steps every single day. The verdict
Winwalk pays, but not in money and not much. Every 100 steps earns 1 coin, the walking rate stops at 100 coins a day, and a £10 Amazon or Tesco card in the UK is commonly priced at 20,000 coins. That is 200 perfect days of walking, or about 5p a day. The US catalogue is slightly kinder at roughly 16,000 coins for a $10 card. Everything faster than that comes from watching ads, taking surveys or installing sponsored games, which is how Winwalk earns the money it hands back to you.
What you actually receive
Winwalk's App Store and Google Play listings, and its own website, describe one kind of reward: digital gift cards delivered inside the app after you redeem. The US listing names Amazon, Walmart and Google Play. The UK listing names Amazon and Tesco, and UK users also report Costa, Argos, Primark, Sports Direct and Currys cards appearing at various points. Codes usually arrive within minutes, though Winwalk can hold a redemption for a fraud check.
There is no bank transfer and, in the UK and US catalogues we checked, no PayPal. That is the biggest difference between Winwalk and cash-first walking apps. The coin rate and the daily cap
Winwalk publishes its rate plainly, which is rare in this category. You earn 1 coin for every 100 steps, up to 100 coins a day. Once you pass 10,000 steps, the pedometer keeps counting but stops paying. A 15,000-step hike earns exactly the same as a 10,000-step commute. Indoor, outdoor and treadmill steps all count because the app reads your phone's motion sensor rather than GPS, and on iPhone it can read Apple Health, including Apple Watch steps.

Card prices differ by country and move without notice, so treat the figures below as the prevailing examples in September 2026 rather than a promise. UK users most often report 20,000 coins for a £10 card (older reports of 16,000 coins for around £8 describe the same 1 coin = 0.05p value). US users most often report 16,000 coins for a $10 card.

The final row is an estimate. It assumes you watch the rewarded video that doubles the day's walking coins and pick up a few small bonuses, which is what most active users describe. It excludes surveys and game installs, which can add thousands of coins in a week but are a separate activity with their own time cost. Ad multipliers and the collection ritual
Coins do not land in your balance automatically. You open the app and either tap repeatedly or watch a video to collect them all at once. Recent App Store reviews complain about tapping the coin button 90 or more times a day and about interstitial ads after each collection. Uncollected coins expire at midnight local time, so a day you forget to open the app is a day that paid nothing.
The rewarded video is the one multiplier worth taking: roughly double the day's walking coins for about 30 seconds. Beyond that, the "earn more" tab is an offer wall of surveys (a few hundred coins if you qualify), game installs that pay once you reach a level, and weekly step challenges worth small bonuses. How Winwalk makes money
Winwalk is free, needs no account and pays out gift cards, so the money comes from three places. Rewarded and interstitial video ads: each clip you watch to collect or double coins earns Winwalk a fraction of a cent to a few cents depending on your country. The offer wall: survey providers and game publishers pay a commission for each completed survey or qualifying install, and Winwalk passes a slice back as coins. Referrals, which grow the audience the ads are sold against.
This explains the design. Walking generates no revenue, so the walking rate is capped at 100 coins a day, low enough that a 20,000-coin card costs Winwalk far less in ad-funded coins than the £10 it pays out. Winwalk not counting steps: the usual fixes
"Winwalk not counting steps" is the most common support complaint, and it is almost always a permission or power setting rather than a broken app.
iPhone: in Settings, Privacy and Security, Motion and Fitness, make sure Fitness Tracking and Health are both on. In the Health app, under Data Access and Devices, allow Winwalk to read Steps. Turn off Low Power Mode, which suspends background motion processing, and turn on Background App Refresh for Winwalk. Apple Watch owners should set Winwalk to use Apple Health rather than the phone sensor, otherwise a phone left on a desk undercounts the day. Winwalk needs iOS 16.4 or later.
Android: grant the Physical activity permission, then exclude Winwalk from battery optimisation (Settings, Apps, Winwalk, Battery, Unrestricted). Samsung, Xiaomi and Huawei phones kill background apps aggressively and this is the single most common cause. Choose one step source inside Winwalk (phone sensor, Google Fit or Health Connect); mixing sources produces gaps and duplicates.
Both platforms: the phone has to be on you, because there is no GPS fallback. Force-quit and reopen if the count freezes, collect coins before midnight, and note that a VPN or multiple accounts can get an account suspended, which users sometimes mistake for a tracking fault.

Winwalk does not publish an official country list. It is live on the UK, US, Australian and many European store fronts, and the catalogue follows the country of your store account: Australian users report a wider shop with smaller cards from around 12,000 coins, while some markets show a near-empty one. Put plainly: £1.50 or $1.88 a month for walking you already do, in exchange for opening an app every evening and watching a short ad. For a habitual walker who wants a free Amazon card twice a year, that is a fair trade. For anyone hoping to earn from exercise it is not, and it is worse if most of your training is in the gym, on a bike or in a pool, none of which move a step count.
