What Is Fitcoin? How the Fitness Rewards App Works

Fitcoin fitness rewards app displayed on iPhone and Android

Fitcoin is a free fitness rewards app for iPhone and Android. It connects to Apple Health or Health Connect, recognises compatible steps and recorded workouts, and brings them together as one daily FitScore. That activity can earn in-app Fitcoin for available partner discounts and free items. Alongside rewards, Fitcoin also shows Sleep, Recovery and Energy scores and can coach how hard to train today.

The important difference is that Fitcoin is not limited to a pedometer total. Walking matters, but so can a recorded run, gym session, cycle, class or other compatible workout. The app also adds GPS run and cycle tracking, challenges, streaks, friends, clubs, Stories, achievements and weekly Leagues so movement has a reason to continue after the first reward.

In one sentence: Fitcoin turns compatible daily activity into FitScore, Recovery and Energy insights, social competition and partner rewards, without pretending that exercise will replace an income.

How Fitcoin works

The basic journey has four parts:

  1. Connect: allow Fitcoin to read selected activity categories from Apple Health on iPhone or Health Connect on Android.
  2. Move: complete your normal steps and compatible recorded workouts. Fitcoin reads the activity your phone, watch or connected tracker has written to the health platform.
  3. Build FitScore: the app combines eligible movement into one daily score rather than treating every activity as a step count.
  4. Use your Fitcoin: redeem the in-app currency against available rewards in the marketplace.

You do not need to replace every tracker you already use. In many cases, a compatible watch or workout app can record the session first, sync it to Apple Health or Health Connect, and let Fitcoin read the resulting record. Fitcoin also includes a dedicated Running Mode for tracking runs directly.

What is FitScore?

FitScore is Fitcoin's daily measure of overall activity. It exists because step-only systems miss too much. A strength session, boxing class, cycle or swim can require serious effort while creating relatively few steps. FitScore gives compatible walking and structured exercise a shared place on one daily scale.

The score uses eligible activity records and is subject to daily limits, so it is designed as a consistent rewards measure rather than a clinical health score. For the full explanation, including why it was built and what can contribute, read What Is FitScore?

What activities can count?

Daily steps can contribute automatically when permission is granted. Compatible structured workouts can also contribute when they are available through Apple Health or Health Connect. Depending on the device and source app, that can include:

Everyday movementWalking and daily step totals.
CardioRuns, rides and other compatible sessions.
Gym trainingCompatible strength and functional workouts.
Classes and sportEligible sessions recorded by a supported source.

Compatibility depends on how the activity is recorded and what data reaches the phone's health platform. Check that a completed session appears in Apple Health or Health Connect before assuming it will reach Fitcoin.

What can you get with Fitcoin?

Fitcoin is an in-app rewards currency. It is not cryptocurrency and cannot be traded. The marketplace focuses on available partner discounts, offers and free items across fitness, wellness and lifestyle categories.

Fitcoin does not pay cash to a bank account or PayPal. Reward availability, prices and participating brands can change, so the honest value depends on whether the current marketplace contains something you would genuinely use. You can browse online rewards in the app and, where available, discover participating in-person partners.

Sleep, Recovery, Energy and coaching

Fitcoin is no longer only a rewards layer on top of steps. The Health and Activity experience adds Recovery and Energy context that most walking-reward apps never build:

  • SleepScore: overnight sleep quality from hours and stages when available. How it differs from Apple’s native score is in sleep score apps for Apple Watch.
  • Recovery and Energy: daily Recovery and Energy signals that help you decide when to push or ease off. Energy is the Watch-side answer to Garmin Body Battery; Recovery is the strap-free cousin of Whoop Recovery. Full split: Fitcoin vs Whoop. Apple does not ship a Whoop-style readiness colour, that gap is Does Apple Watch have a readiness score?
  • Daily coaching: a short plan for how hard to go today, grounded in your recent load.
  • Ask Fitcoin: ask the coach about training, recovery or a specific session when you want more detail.
  • Extra insights: load forecast, heart-health context, fitness age and Immune Shield from overnight wrist temperature and breathing rate versus your baseline, where data allows. Wellness estimates only, not a diagnosis.

Some coaching and deeper insight paths sit behind optional Premium. Core FitScore earning and the rewards marketplace remain available without a subscription.

More than a rewards balance

A reward may get someone to download a fitness app, but progression is what gives them a reason to return. Fitcoin combines several motivation systems:

  • Streaks: recognise repeated active days and consistent habits.
  • Challenges: provide focused step, workout or activity goals with progress tracking.
  • Friends and Stories: compare FitScore or steps and share activity with people you know.
  • Clubs: create or join public and private groups with posts and shared competition.
  • Leagues: weekly rooms across ten tiers, ranked on seven-day FitScore, with promotion and demotion.
  • GPS run and cycle: track sessions in-app, then review pace, route and summary stats.
  • Achievements: mark milestones as you train and stay consistent.

These features are optional layers around the same core idea: recognise more kinds of movement, then make consistency visible.

What health data does Fitcoin use and store?

Fitcoin uses permission-based access to selected Apple Health or Health Connect categories. You control those permissions in device settings. The app stores selected activity records and summaries needed to provide activity history, FitScore, streaks, challenges, insights and rewards. These can include daily steps, workout details, derived scores and route information for runs actively tracked with Fitcoin.

Fitcoin does not copy your entire health database. Health data is not sold, supplied to data brokers or reward partners, or used for targeted advertising. You can revoke future access and request deletion of server-held data. Read the current privacy policy for the complete detail.

Is Fitcoin free?

Yes. Fitcoin is free to download, and its core earning and rewards features can be used without paying. The app also offers an optional Premium tier with additional benefits for users who want them. A subscription is not required simply to connect activity, build FitScore and access the core rewards experience.

Who is Fitcoin for?

Fitcoin is a strong fit if you:

  • want gym sessions and other workouts to count alongside walking;
  • already record activity with an iPhone, Android phone or compatible wearable;
  • find challenges, streaks and friendly competition motivating;
  • prefer fitness and lifestyle rewards to a very slow cash payout;
  • understand that rewards are a small bonus, not an income.
