Fitcoin versus Whoop only makes sense once you split the jobs. Whoop sells a strap, a membership, and a Recovery colour. Fitcoin sells a free app that reads the Watch or phone you already have, prints Recovery, Energy and SleepScore, then still scores the session for partner rewards. One is a wearable company. One is a rewards-and-training companion. You can want both. You cannot make them the same screenshot.
If you want the colours explained, see Whoop Recovery explained. If you want the Watch-app list, see Watch apps without Whoop.
Short verdict: Keep Whoop if you will wear the strap 24/7 and the membership feels worth it. Use Fitcoin if you wanted Recovery on Apple Health or Health Connect plus gym and walk rewards. Connecting Whoop into Fitcoin is optional glue, not a reason to pay twice forever.
Disclosure: Fitcoin is our product. We are not affiliated with Apple, Garmin, Whoop, Bevel, Athlytic, HRV4Training or the other apps named here. Where Fitcoin appears, it is as a Sleep, Recovery and Energy companion that also scores workouts for partner rewards, not a PayPal cash-out app. Scores described below are wellness estimates for general fitness. They are not medical devices and they do not diagnose illness.

Recovery is not Recovery
Whoop Recovery is HRV-heavy, with resting heart rate, sleep performance versus a modelled sleep need, and respiratory rate. The bands they publish are green roughly 67–99%, yellow 34–66%, red 1–33%. Member average sits well below 70, so a life of yellow is not a defect. Details live on the explainer page, not repeated here as a second glossary.
Fitcoin Recovery is an interpretation of authorised health data: HRV, resting heart rate, SleepScore, consistency, load, and a small systemic pillar. Immune Shield can cap it when overnight temperature and breathing jump versus you. Energy is the tank that falls after you train, closer to Garmin’s job than Whoop’s colour. If you mash Energy and Recovery you will think the app is broken. They are two questions.
Sampling, the thing Watch apps cannot fake
Whoop’s pitch is 24/7 optical on a strap you do not take off to shower-charge the way you do a Watch. Overnight HRV during deepest sleep is the centre of their model. Apple Watch sampling is strong when you wear it in bed and charge before midnight. Leave it on the nightstand and there is simply less overnight data to work with.
If your Watch is on the nightstand, Fitcoin cannot invent Whoop's night. If your Whoop is in a drawer, Whoop cannot invent a Recovery. Hardware you will actually wear beats the spec sheet you screenshot.
Money, said in adult sentences
With Whoop, you subscribe. Hardware is bundled in the plan in the current US model, with accessories extra. That can be the right buy for a data nerd. It is a terrible buy if you wanted gift cards for deadlifts.
Fitcoin is free to download. FitScore comes from compatible steps and workouts. Rewards are discounts and free items in a catalogue that changes. Premium is coaching and extra insight, not a gate on the core Health scores. Whoop is the deeper 24/7 strain loop if you will wear the strap. Fitcoin is the Watch-or-phone companion that still scores the gym for partner rewards. Different products, both honest about what they sell.
Using them together
Optional Whoop connect in Fitcoin lets authorised metrics fill gaps in Sleep, Recovery and Energy. Disconnect whenever. Whoop remains the controller of Whoop data under Whoop’s notice. We remain the controller of what you do in Fitcoin under ours.
A practical split: keep Whoop if you love the strap and want that overnight picture as your headline. Let Fitcoin score the gym from Health as well if you also wanted rewards. Or sleep in the Watch and let Fitcoin Recovery be the morning number. What gets messy is three Recovery scores at breakfast and no idea which one to trust.
When to keep which
- Let Whoop go if the strap is in a drawer and you only opened this tab because the renewal email landed.
- Stay on Whoop if you wanted their exact integer, you will wear the strap, and partner rewards are not the point.
- Keep both for 30 days if you are honestly switching. Then pick a headline Recovery.
- Skip the extra bill if you will ignore every colour and every FitScore. Sleep well and train the way you already train.
Watch-only shoppers who never wanted a strap can start with Bevel vs Athlytic or the Athlytic review. For Galaxy Watch, see Energy Score. For a ring, see Oura vs Apple Watch.
Frequently asked questions
Is Fitcoin a Whoop alternative?
For the morning question of whether to push or go easy, Fitcoin Recovery is a Watch or Health Connect alternative. For 24/7 strap sampling, Whoop membership hardware, and green / yellow / red branding, no. They are different instruments.
Does Whoop pay you to work out?
No. You pay Whoop. Fitcoin is the one with a partner rewards catalogue on FitScore. Neither is a guaranteed PayPal salary.
How much is Whoop versus Fitcoin?
Whoop US membership in the 5.0 era is publicly listed around $199 / $239 / $359 a year for One / Peak / Life with hardware in the plan. Fitcoin is free to download with optional Premium for coaching depth. Confirm live prices. A strap invoice and a gift card are different kinds of money.
Can I connect Whoop to Fitcoin?
Yes, optionally. Authorised Whoop metrics can fill Sleep, Recovery and Energy when you choose. You can refuse. Connecting Whoop does not turn Fitcoin into Whoop, and it does not stop Whoop billing you.
Should I cancel Whoop for Fitcoin?
Let Whoop go if you will not wear the strap and you only wanted a morning colour. Keep Whoop if 24/7 sampling is the product. Add Fitcoin if you also wanted gym, walk and ride scored for rewards. Many people do both for a month, then pick a headline.
