Whoop 5.0 and Whoop MG share the same generation of comfort, battery and core strain tracking. The split is membership, not form factor. One and Peak ship 5.0 hardware. Life ships MG with ECG Heart Screener and blood-pressure insights. If you are upgrading from Whoop 4.0, Peak is the sensible landing zone. Life is a specialist cardiac upsell.

Quick verdict
Choose Whoop Peak + 5.0 unless you have a clear reason to pay for ECG and BP insights every year. MG does not make Sleep, Strain or Recovery magically better. It adds medical-adjacent wellness tools on top of the same coaching loop.

Same generation, different rooms
If you wear Peak and Life back to back for a normal training week, Strain and Recovery will feel familiar. That is intentional. Whoop is selling membership ladders, not a full hardware reboot every tier. The MG module exists so Life can clear ECG-style features and run blood-pressure insight algorithms that 5.0 hardware does not support.
Independent coverage after the tier relaunch has been consistent: Peak is where most members should land; Life is for people who opened the site because of Heart Screener or BP trends. Full context in our Whoop MG review and Is Whoop worth it.
When MG is worth it
If irregular rhythm checks and calibrated BP trends are why you opened the Whoop site, Life is the only SKU that delivers. Treat BP insights as experimental wellness, not a cuff replacement. Confirm ECG availability in your country before you pay the jump from Peak.
If you mainly want better recovery coaching than a watch, Peak already unlocks Healthspan and Stress Monitor on 5.0 hardware. That is the upgrade most 4.0 members actually feel day to day.
Who should buy which
One: budget Whoop, core loop only.
Peak: recommended default for 2026.
Life / MG: cardiac feature hunters who accept the top-tier rent.
What about leaving Whoop?
Pay-once rivals at about $200: Garmin CIRQA, Polar Loop, Helio Strap Pro for HYROX. None copy Whoop's coaching UI. All destroy Life on three-year cost.
What does not change between 5.0 and MG
Sleep staging philosophy, Strain math, Recovery colours, Coach tone, band comfort, PowerPack habits and the roughly 14-day battery class. If a review of Whoop 5.0 already convinced you, MG will not re-convince you on those axes. It only matters when Heart Screener or BP insights are on your must-have list.
That is also why Peak is the upgrade path from Whoop 4.0 for most members: Healthspan and Stress Monitor change the daily loop. MG changes the occasional cardiac check.
Regional and eligibility catches
ECG is regulated. Age limits, arrhythmia exclusions and country availability all sit in Whoop's fine print. Blood Pressure Insights carry their own exclusions (including pregnancy and BP medication). Paying Life in a region where Heart Screener is limited is an expensive way to learn to read footnotes.
Check availability before you upgrade. Peak works everywhere Whoop works. Life's extras do not.
Upgrade path from Whoop 4.0
Most 4.0 members should land on Peak with 5.0 hardware: better charger habits, Healthspan, Stress Monitor, same coaching religion. Jumping straight to Life makes sense only when cardiac extras were the reason you stayed with Whoop through the subscription debates.
If you are new to Whoop in 2026, start by asking whether you want any Whoop. The One/Peak/Life ladder only matters after you accept rent. Pay-once bands exist specifically for people who do not.
A practical test: wear Peak for a month mentally. If you never wished for ECG on the strap, you do not need MG. If you did, and your region supports Heart Screener, Life is the honest upsell.
What Peak actually adds over One
Before you debate MG, understand Peak. One is core Whoop: Sleep, Strain, Recovery, Coach, 5.0 hardware, basic charger. Peak keeps the same sensor generation and unlocks Healthspan, Pace of Aging and the real-time Stress Monitor, usually with the wireless PowerPack in the box. That is the upgrade most 4.0 members feel in the first week, because the morning loop gets richer without asking them to become ECG hobbyists.
Life then jumps another $120 a year over Peak for MG hardware and the cardiac rooms. If Peak already solved the "I want modern Whoop" problem, Life is not a continuity upgrade. It is a different product category bolted onto the same strap religion.
ECG and blood pressure insights without the brochure
Heart Screener is the honest Life exclusive: on-demand ECG readings aimed at spotting potential AFib signs where the feature is cleared. Whoop's own limits matter: not for known arrhythmias other than AFib, not for under-22s in many policies, not recommended with pacemakers or similar implants, and not available in every country. Buy Life only after you confirm you can unlock the feature.
Blood Pressure Insights sound like a cuff on your wrist. They are not. You get estimated systolic and diastolic ranges that need external calibration, sit in wellness status, and carry exclusions (including pregnancy and BP medication in Whoop's notes). Useful as a trend toy for curious members. Dangerous as a substitute for clinical monitoring. Engadget-style coverage after launch has been consistent on that gap between marketing and fine print.
Neither feature makes Recovery scores more accurate. If your complaint about Whoop was "the coaching is not smart enough," Life does not fix that. Peak's Healthspan and Stress tools are closer to that complaint.
Comfort and battery: a wash on purpose
Whoop wants the tier fight to be about software rooms, not wearability. 5.0 and MG share the roughly 14-day class, PowerPack habits and band ecosystem style. You will not feel a different overnight experience unless you are actively taking ECG readings. That is why "is MG more accurate for recovery?" is usually the wrong question.
The right question is whether you will use Heart Screener enough times a year to justify about $360 versus about $240. For most athletes the answer is no. For a narrower group worried about rhythm and willing to read the eligibility notes, the answer can be yes.
Verdict: which tier should you buy?
Choose One if:
- You want the cheapest entry into Whoop's core loop.
- Healthspan and Stress Monitor are not priorities yet.
Choose Peak if:
- You want the 2026 default Whoop experience.
- You are upgrading from 4.0 and care about Healthspan / Stress more than ECG.
Choose Life / MG if:
- ECG and BP insights are why you opened Whoop's site.
- Those features are live in your region and you pass the eligibility notes.
Our take: Peak is enough for most people. Life is a specialist cardiac upsell. If the annual rent is the objection, leave Whoop entirely for CIRQA, Polar Loop or Helio rather than bargaining with yourself about MG.
Frequently asked questions
Is Whoop MG more accurate for recovery?
Not meaningfully. Core recovery and strain share the generation. MG adds ECG and BP insights.
Can I upgrade from Peak to Life later?
Yes via Whoop membership changes, subject to Whoop's current upgrade policies and hardware swaps.
Whoop 5.0 or Garmin CIRQA?
CIRQA if you hate subscriptions. Whoop if you want the coaching loop and will wear it daily.
Does MG need a different band?
It uses the same band ecosystem style as 5.0, with MG-specific module hardware.
Is One ever enough?
Yes if you only want Sleep, Strain, Recovery and Coach without Healthspan or Stress Monitor.
Are blood pressure insights medical-grade?
No. They are wellness estimates that need cuff calibration.
