Galaxy Watch recovery is Samsung Health first, App Store second. Apple Watch people get Bevel and Athlytic. You get Energy Score, Sleep Coaching, overnight vitals, and a much shorter third-party list. That is not Samsung 'losing'. That is a different shelf. This page stays on readiness for Galaxy. Payday for the session is the Health Connect article.
Not Apple Watch recovery without Whoop. Not does Apple Watch have Readiness. Not Health Connect workout rewards.
Short verdict: Wear the Watch in bed for a week, use Energy Score as the headline, ignore Play Store Whoop clones. Add Fitcoin if you want Recovery plus FitScore rewards on Health Connect. Add Whoop if you wanted the strap all along.
Disclosure: Fitcoin is our product. We are not affiliated with Apple, Garmin, Whoop, Bevel, Athlytic, HRV4Training or the other apps named here. Where Fitcoin appears, it is as a Sleep, Recovery and Energy companion that also scores workouts for partner rewards, not a PayPal cash-out app. Scores described below are wellness estimates for general fitness. They are not medical devices and they do not diagnose illness.
Energy Score, in Samsung's words
Samsung Health Energy Score is a daily 0-100 built from physical activity, sleep quality (duration, consistency, how fast you drop off), heart rate during sleep and HRV during sleep. Samsung Research published the ingredients with the University of Georgia work that led to the feature. It was previewed as My Vitality Score, then shipped as Energy Score with Galaxy Watch 7 / Ultra / Ring, and has been rolling to older supported watches via Samsung Health versions in the 6.27 era on Android 11+.
The shape that matters: it is a morning readiness picture, not Garmin's tank that drains at 4pm. If you wanted a same-day battery, Energy Score will feel 'stuck'. That is the spec. Galaxy Watch 9 marketing still frames it as plan-the-day-before-you-stand-up. Wellness tips on top. Not a diagnosis.
Sleep Coaching is not Energy Score
Sleep Coaching wants about seven nights, including a workday and a day off, then a 3-4 week programme with missions. Samsung account, recent Health app, Android 13+ on current Watch 9 copy. It is a habit course. Energy Score is the daily integer. People mash them because both say sleep. Do not.
Apnoea risk features, where offered, are medical-adjacent and region-locked. They are not Recovery. If the Watch thinks you should see a clinician, see a clinician.
Third-party apps that are actually real
| App | On Galaxy? | Job |
|---|---|---|
| Samsung Health Energy Score | Yes. Native. | Morning readiness 0-100 |
| Whoop | Yes, as a strap, not as a Watch face clone | Green / yellow / red Recovery |
| Fitcoin | Yes, via Health Connect | Recovery / Energy / SleepScore plus FitScore rewards |
| Bevel / Athlytic / Gentler Streak | No | iPhone |
| Random 'Whoop for Samsung' APK | Uninstall | Permissions harvest |

Health Connect, so the gym still exists
Energy Score will not mint a gift card. If you also wanted the session rewarded, Samsung must write the workout into Health Connect, then a rewards app must read Exercise. That pipe is easy to break and easy to blame on 'Android being Android'. Check the hub.

Setup that is not optional
- Update Samsung Health. Energy Score hiding is usually an old APK.
- Wear the Watch in bed. Charge before you drop.
- Give it a week before you call Energy Score random.
- One headline. If you also bought Whoop, pick a colour system and mute the other.
- Never sideload a recovery APK from a Telegram ad.
If Energy Score is high and your legs are destroyed, believe the legs. Optical HR and a 0-100 from last night will not see yesterday's Bulgarian split squats as clearly as you do.
Frequently asked questions
Does Galaxy Watch have a recovery score?
Samsung Health Energy Score is the native morning 0-100 readiness-style number, from recent sleep, activity, sleeping heart rate and sleeping HRV. It is not Whoop Recovery and not Bevel. Sleep Coaching is a separate multi-week habit programme after about seven nights of data.
Can I use Bevel or Athlytic on Galaxy Watch?
No. Those are Apple Watch and iPhone apps. Play Store lookalikes are not Bevel.
What is the best Whoop alternative for Samsung?
Whoop itself if you will wear the strap. Energy Score if you will live in Samsung Health. Fitcoin Recovery if you also want workouts scored for rewards via Health Connect. Do not install four clones.
Is Energy Score the same as Garmin Body Battery?
No. Samsung describes Energy Score as a morning readiness picture that stays put through the day. Body Battery is a same-day charge-and-drain tank. Different shape.
Will Galaxy Watch workouts reward me?
Only if they reach Health Connect and a rewards app reads them. That is the Health Connect workout rewards article, not this recovery page.
