Apple Watch already prints a Sleep Score. From watchOS 26 it is 0–100: half duration, 30 points for how regular your bedtime has been, 20 for how often you woke. That is why searching “sleep score Apple Watch” mostly returns Apple’s own guide. A sleep score app is the other search: people who looked at that number, noticed REM and deep sitting in a chart with no vote, and wanted a second opinion.
Do not write a twelfth “how to track sleep on Apple Watch” tutorial. Apple owns that SERP. This page stays on what the native score omits, which apps still bother, and when the native number is enough.
Short verdict: Keep Apple’s Sleep Score if you only care about sleeping long enough, on a schedule, with fewer wake-ups. Add a third-party score if you train on sleep architecture (REM, deep, heart-rate dip), or you want the same night to feed Recovery and Energy. Pick one headline number. Stop screenshotting four apps at breakfast.

Apple’s Sleep Score, without the keynote
Apple’s user guide is blunt. Duration can contribute 50 points. Bedtime consistency uses when you fell asleep across recent nights (Apple documents the last 13). Interruptions cover how often you woke and how long you stayed awake. Labels on iOS 26.2 / watchOS 26.2 run Very Low (0–40), Low (41–60), OK (61–80), High (81–95), Very High (96+).
Stages still appear in the Sleep app. They just do not get their own slice of the 100. You can have a High score with thin deep sleep if you hit the duration goal and went to bed on time. That is not Apple being wrong. It is Apple scoring behaviour, not architecture.

Bevel’s Sleep Score (see Bevel scores explained) uses time asleep, REM, deep, heart-rate dip, efficiency and continuity. Pillow and AutoSleep have their own blends and, often, audio or smart-alarm extras Apple does not care about. The sleep tracking apps roundup is the shopping list. If stages never write to Health (Watch off the wrist, or a third-party ring that only sends duration), Fitcoin falls back to duration, efficiency and continuity. Apple’s score will also look odd if the Watch was charging. Garbage in, confident integer out.
How to use two scores without going mad
- Train on one headline. If you picked Apple, improve duration and schedule. If you picked a stage-weighted app, look at deep and REM shares, not Apple’s label.
- Never average them. 82 and 64 is not ‘73’. It is two recipes.
- Watch the trend inside one app for two weeks before you change bedtime.
- Ignore 100s that required a perfect life. A score that only hits 90 if you sleep 8:02–6:58 every night will make you worse at sleeping.
Fitcoin SleepScore, in plain numbers
When Apple Health or Health Connect supplies stages, Fitcoin scores duration (30), deep (25), REM (25), efficiency (15) and continuity (5). Adult targets we use as wellness anchors: roughly 7–9 hours asleep, deep around 15–23% of that, REM around 20–28%. Wearable deep is often under-counted; the curve is softer at the low end on purpose. A 7-night regularity check can nudge the total by a few percent either way. The 0–100 SleepScore then maps to up to 10 Fitcoin for the night. Activity FitScore is a separate 0–20.
That is why someone can have an Apple ‘High’ and a Fitcoin mid-60s: they slept 8 hours on schedule and still showed thin REM. It is also why you should not chase deep sleep with gadgets. Stages on a Watch are estimates.
Who still needs a third-party sleep score
Yes if: you already wear the Watch all night; you want stages in the headline number; you want that night to feed Recovery and Energy the next day.
No if: you will not charge the Watch before bed; you wanted white noise or a snore recorder (different apps, different SERP); you only needed Apple’s own how-to. Stay in the Sleep app.
What Apple’s labels actually mean in 2026
watchOS 26.2 / iOS 26.2 renamed the top band from Excellent to Very High and widened the ranges: Very Low 0–40, Low 41–60, OK 61–80, High 81–95, Very High 96+. The 50/30/20 maths did not change. If your score ‘dropped’ after the update without your bedtime changing, check whether you are reading a new label on the same number.
Very High is supposed to be rare. A score that hands out 96s for 7 hours 10 minutes on a slightly late Tuesday is not ambitious. It is flattery. Apple’s Very High band being tiny is a feature.
When a ring or Whoop writes the night
Oura and Whoop can write sleep into Apple Health. Apple’s Sleep Score still prefers Watch-native nights when both exist. Mix sources and you get a score that is ‘Apple’s recipe on someone else’s stages’, or no score at all. Use the device’s own app for that hardware’s score. Use Apple’s score for Watch nights. Fitcoin SleepScore will use whatever staged or duration records Health actually holds that night, which is why a Whoop-connected week and a Watch-only week should not be compared as if the sensor were identical.

Does Apple Watch have a sleep score?
Yes, from watchOS 26. The Sleep app and the Health app show a 0–100 Sleep Score after you wake, built from sleep duration (up to 50 points), bedtime consistency over recent nights (up to 30) and interruptions (up to 20). Series 6 and later, SE 2 and Ultra models on watchOS 26, with iPhone 11 or later on iOS 26.
Why would I still want a sleep score app?
Apple’s 100 points do not give REM or deep sleep a slice of the total. A third-party score that weights stages, heart-rate dip or regularity will disagree with Apple on purpose. That disagreement is the product, not a bug, as long as you pick one score and stop comparing integers across apps.
Is Apple’s Sleep Score the same as Fitcoin SleepScore?
No. Fitcoin SleepScore is 0–100 from duration, and when stages exist from deep, REM, efficiency and continuity, with a mild regularity multiplier across nights. It can earn up to 10 Fitcoin for the night. Apple’s score is duration, schedule consistency and awakenings. Same night, two jobs.
Can I get a sleep score without wearing a watch?
Phone-on-the-mattress apps still exist. They are a different category (microphone and accelerometer on the duvet). This page is Watch-fed scores written into Apple Health. A phone-only app will not match Watch stages.
Is a sleep score medical?
No. Apple, Fitcoin, Bevel and Pillow scores are wellness estimates. They are not a sleep-clinic study and they do not diagnose sleep apnoea.
