Fitbit Air is Google's bet on a quieter wearable: no screen, tiny pebble, week-class battery, and the serious tracking (heart rate, sleep stages, SpO2, HRV, auto workouts) lives in the Google Health app on your phone. That design is smart. It is also incomplete if the only thing you do is open Google Health, glance at charts, and close it. The useful move is to let Air keep doing the passive job, then plug that feed into an app that scores effort, coaches readiness and pays you back with rewards you would actually redeem.
Short verdict
Fitbit Air is a screenless tracker for Android and iPhone that pairs with Google Health. Fitcoin (our app, disclosed) already reads Health Connect on Android, with a direct Google Health app connection rolling out for Fitbit-era cloud data. Fitcoin builds a daily FitScore from steps and workouts, adds Sleep, Recovery and Energy coaching, runs Leagues and challenges, and unlocks partner brand discounts and free items. Not cash. Not crypto. If you are on iPhone-first without Fitbit Air, the twin guide is Apple Health data rewards.
What Fitbit Air actually is
Google announced Fitbit Air in May 2026 as its smallest Fitbit yet: a screenless pebble with bands you can swap, up to about a week of battery, fast charge for a day of power in minutes, and sensors aimed at all-day and overnight wear. Official material highlights 24/7 heart rate, heart-rhythm monitoring with AFib alerts (where available), SpO2, resting heart rate, HRV, sleep stages and duration, plus automatic activity detection that improves over time.
There is no watch face to check. Insights live in the Google Health app. Hardware launched around the $99 mark (Special Edition higher), and Google bundled a short Google Health Premium trial with Health Coach for new hardware buyers. Premium is optional for basic tracking; treat the coach subscription as a Google upsell, not a Fitcoin requirement.
Practical translation: Air is built to disappear on your wrist and dump clean signals into Google Health. That is excellent plumbing. It is not a rewards marketplace, a League, or a FitScore by itself.
What "getting the most out of Fitbit Air" means
Looking at Google Health charts is not a strategy. A tracker earns its keep when the same activity does four jobs at once:
1. It stays accurate without babysitting. Heart rate, sleep and auto-detected sessions should sync in the background from the band you already forget you are wearing.
2. It scores effort fairly. A hard lift, a Zone 2 walk and a poor-sleep recovery day are different shapes of work. A single step total flattens all three.
3. It feeds readiness and coaching. Sleep, recovery and energy context tell you whether today's score was hard-earned or borrowed from tomorrow. Air is strong on the raw signals; you still need a product that turns them into guidance.
4. It creates a reason to come back. Challenges, weekly Leagues and redeemable rewards turn a dashboard into a habit loop. Without that loop, even a beautiful screenless band becomes jewellery after the novelty week.
Fitbit Air covers job one exceptionally well. Google Health expands who can see the data. The layer that finishes jobs two to four is a product built on top, which is where Fitcoin sits.
How Fitbit Air data reaches Fitcoin
Before you chase rewards, check the plumbing. Fitcoin's story for Fitbit-era hardware is two Android pipes, plus Apple Health on iPhone:
Google Health app (the Fitbit Air home). Air pairs with Google Health. That is where sleep stages, heart metrics and workout recaps land. Fitcoin already has the Google Health API path in the product for Fitbit / Pixel Watch cloud data, and the direct connect flow for that Health app source is rolling out so you are not stuck waiting for every metric to bounce through a bridge first. Availability can vary by build while the rollout completes.
Health Connect (live now on Android). Fitcoin reads Google Health Connect for on-device permitted steps, workouts, heart rate, sleep-related metrics and active energy from your phone, watch and other apps. When Google Health or companion apps write categories Health Connect can share, Fitcoin can use them once you grant access.
Apple Health (iPhone). Fitbit Air works with iOS via Google Health. Depending on what your stack writes where, Apple Health may still be the cleanest Fitcoin hub on iPhone. If you are Apple Watch–first with no Air, start with our Apple Health data rewards guide.
How Fitcoin turns that activity into more than a chart
Fitcoin is our product, so this is a disclosed pitch. The reason it belongs in a Fitbit Air guide is blunt: Air alone does not reward you, rank you against friends or coach you with Fitcoin's Sleep / Recovery / Energy stack. Fitcoin does those jobs on top of the activity you already generate.
Compatible steps and workouts feed a daily FitScore out of 20. That score is modality-aware: walking counts, and so do gym sessions, runs, cycles and other compatible recorded workouts. FitScore earns Fitcoin the in-app currency, redeemed for brand discounts and free items. No bank transfer, no PayPal cash-out, no crypto. There is also a daily ceiling, because FitScore itself is capped.
Beyond the wallet, the same activity feeds Sleep, Recovery and Energy coaching, Ask Fitcoin coaching on synced fitness context, strength logging with sets and reps, built-in GPS run and cycle tracking, plus challenges, clubs and weekly Leagues where FitScore is the social currency. Fitcoin is free on iOS and Android with no subscription required for core earning and rewards.

Setup: Fitbit Air to Fitcoin in about ten minutes
1. Pair Air with Google Health. Finish Google's setup, wear the band overnight once, and confirm sleep and heart metrics appear in Google Health before you blame any rewards app.
2. Download Fitcoin and allow the health categories you are comfortable sharing. On Android, that means Health Connect today and Google Health permissions when that connect screen appears on your build. Start with steps and exercise sessions if you want a narrow set; add heart rate and sleep when you want coaching to work properly.
3. Do a normal day. Walk, train or sleep the way you already would. Open Fitcoin later and check that FitScore moved. If it did not, the fix is almost always upstream: the session is missing from Google Health / Health Connect, or the permission for that category is off.
4. Turn on the social loop. Join a League, start or accept a challenge, follow friends. The tracker becomes sticky when tomorrow's score has an audience.
5. Browse rewards before you obsess over coin totals. Partner offers change. The honest value of Fitcoin is whether the marketplace has something you would buy anyway.
How this differs from step-only reward apps
Plenty of walking-reward apps still market "Fitbit" or "Google Fit" because that is what people type into search. Many only care about outdoor steps, so a hard gym session or a recovery-focused day barely moves the needle.
Fitcoin's bet is different: Health Connect plus Google Health as the hubs for Fitbit Air–era data, FitScore across modalities, coaching beside the score, Leagues as social pressure, partner discounts instead of cash cosplay. If your only goal is a PayPal withdrawal for steps, read our roundups of apps that pay you to walk and the best apps that pay you to exercise. If your goal is to make Fitbit Air do more than fill Google Health charts, Fitcoin is the layer we built for that.
Frequently asked questions
What is Fitbit Air?
Fitbit Air is Google's screenless fitness tracker from May 2026: a small pebble-style wearable for 24/7 heart rate, sleep stages, SpO2, HRV and automatic activity detection, with insights in the Google Health app rather than on a watch face.
Does Fitcoin connect to Fitbit Air?
Fitbit Air pairs with Google Health. Fitcoin reads Health Connect on Android today, and a direct Google Health app connection is rolling out for Fitbit-era cloud data. On iPhone, Apple Health may still be the primary hub depending on what your sources write.
Can I get rewards from Fitbit Air data?
Yes, if that activity reaches a path Fitcoin can read and you have granted permissions. Fitcoin turns compatible steps and workouts into FitScore, then partner brand discounts and free items rather than cash, with a daily ceiling tied to FitScore.
Do I need Google Health Premium for Fitcoin?
No. Core Fitbit Air tracking works with the free Google Health app. Premium adds Google's Health Coach extras. Fitcoin's core earning and rewards do not require that subscription.
Is Fitbit Air Android-only?
No. Google lists Fitbit Air for Android and iOS with the Google Health app. Fitcoin is on both platforms too.
