‘Apps like Bevel’ is a shopping query, not a glossary. You already know Bevel exists. You want out: price, iOS-only, score fog, or a vibe that feels like a second Health app. This list is seven exits. For what Recovery 74% actually means inside Bevel, use Bevel scores explained instead of bouncing between screenshots.
Short verdict: Pick Athlytic if you want the same Watch and a tighter training loop. Pick Fitcoin if you want Recovery plus gym scoring and rewards, including Android. Pick Whoop if a strap was always the real product. Apple Sleep Score is enough if you never needed Strain at all.
Disclosure: Fitcoin is our product. We are not affiliated with Apple, Garmin, Whoop, Bevel, Athlytic, HRV4Training or the other apps named here. Where Fitcoin appears, it is as a Sleep, Recovery and Energy companion that also scores workouts for partner rewards, not a PayPal cash-out app. Scores described below are wellness estimates for general fitness. They are not medical devices and they do not diagnose illness.
Why people actually look for Bevel alternatives
- The subscription is stacked on an Apple Watch they already paid for.
- Scores need weeks of calibration and still disagree with how they feel.
- They wanted Whoop, bought Bevel as a compromise, and still miss the strap’s sampling.
- They wanted sleep only. Bevel is a lot of product for a hypnogram.
- They have an Android partner, or they lift and walk and want that rewarded, not just interpreted.
The seven
| # | App | Like Bevel if you… | Unlike Bevel because… |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Athlytic | Want Recovery and a daily exertion target on Watch | No Energy Bank or nutrition OS; privacy-on-device pitch |
| 2 | Gentler Streak | Want to be told to go easier | Less of a numbers cockpit |
| 3 | Fitcoin (ours) | Want Recovery, Energy and FitScore rewards | Rewards app with health scores, not a Bevel skin |
| 4 | HRV4Training | Want a morning rMSSD ritual | Homework, not an overnight dashboard |
| 5 | Whoop | Want the original loop | You wear another device |
| 6 | AutoSleep + Apple Sleep Score | Mostly wanted sleep | Not Recovery |
| 7 | Apple Health alone | Will read HRV and sleep raw | No headline Recovery |
1. Athlytic: the default swap
Overnight HRV and resting heart rate versus a 60-day baseline become Recovery. Exertion 0–10 builds when heart rate sits above your threshold. Target zone is today’s ask. If Bevel felt like a health magazine, Athlytic feels like a coach’s whiteboard. It is still iOS, and it still does not pay you for the session. For the head-to-head, see Bevel vs Athlytic. For the full product, see the Athlytic review.
2. Gentler Streak: the personality swap
Same hardware, with a softer nag. Choose this if Bevel’s cockpit made you train angry. Skip it if you liked Cardio Status and muscular load.
3. Fitcoin: Recovery with a job after training
Fitcoin gives you SleepScore, Recovery, Energy, Immune Shield and Load context, then FitScore for the session and partner rewards. It runs on iPhone and Android via Health Connect, with optional Whoop or Oura data when you connect them (you do not have to). This is the honest alternative if the reason you installed Bevel was to make the Watch useful, and you also wanted walking and gym to count for something other than a chart.
It is a weaker match if you wanted Bevel’s nutrition score and biological age. Fitcoin is Recovery, Energy, SleepScore and FitScore rewards, not a food OS.
4. HRV4Training: the protocol swap
Covered in the HRV4Training review. You measure on purpose. Bevel measures while you sleep. If Bevel’s overnight HRV felt noisy, a morning camera reading can feel cleaner. It will not give you Strain.
5. Whoop: if the strap was the point
If every Bevel screen made you miss the strap, Whoop is still the product built for that. Read Recovery explained first so you know the colours. Watch-only apps cannot promise Whoop’s integer.
6–7. AutoSleep / Apple Sleep Score / Health
If you never used Bevel Strain, you never needed Bevel. Native Sleep Score plus, maybe, AutoSleep, is enough. For a Recovery-app roundup, see without Whoop. For a sleep-app roundup, see Watch sleep apps.
How to switch without two weeks of chaos
- Wear the Watch overnight for 7–14 days in the new app before you judge it. Baselines are not portable.
- Do not uninstall Bevel on day one if you need historical screenshots for a coach. Export what you care about.
- Pick one Recovery headline. Keep the rest as optional charts if you like.
- If Energy was the Bevel feature you liked, read Apple Watch Body Battery so you know which replacements even try to be a tank.
The subscription stack problem
Apple Watch, iCloud, Fitness+, Bevel Pro, maybe Athlytic, maybe Whoop just to compare, this is how a Watch becomes a £40/month hobby. Pick one interpretation layer. If Bevel Pro is the only new bill and you use Strain every day, fine. If you cannot remember the last time Target Strain changed a workout, cancel and keep Apple Sleep Score.
Fitcoin’s optional Premium is coaching and deeper insights, not a requirement to earn FitScore or see the core Health scores. The free app still scores the day. You do not need Premium to try Recovery next to Bevel’s free view.
What Reddit gets wrong
Threads that crown Athlytic one month and Bevel the next are usually people running both and comparing screenshots. Their Recovery never matched. Ours will not match either. The useful Reddit comment is that you changed your Tuesday session. The useless one is that Athlytic is 12 points higher so Bevel is fake.
If you came from a Whoop subreddit, read Whoop Recovery explained before you buy another dashboard. You might still want the strap.
Frequently asked questions
What app is most like Bevel?
Athlytic is the closest Watch-only recovery and exertion dashboard. Gentler Streak is the closest train-easier personality. Fitcoin is the closest if you also want workouts rewarded. Whoop is the closest loop if you will wear a strap.
Is Athlytic better than Bevel?
Athlytic is stronger for live Watch exertion and a tight Recovery to target-zone loop, with an on-device privacy pitch. It is a weaker match if you wanted Bevel’s wider health OS (nutrition, energy bank, cardio status, strength builder). Try one for two weeks, not both.
Is there a free app like Bevel?
Apple Health plus the native Sleep Score is the free baseline. It will not give you Bevel Recovery. Free recovery lookalikes on the App Store are usually thin charts or upsells. Budget for a subscription if you want the Whoop-without-Whoop job.
Does Fitcoin copy Bevel’s scores?
No. Fitcoin SleepScore, Recovery and Energy are separate recipes (stages-weighted sleep, HRV-heavy Recovery, depletion Energy, Immune Shield). We are an alternative in this list because the morning question is the same: whether to push or go easy. The business model includes rewards.
Can I use Bevel and another recovery app together?
You can. You should not train on both numbers. Pick a headline app. Let Apple Sleep Score stay as the behaviour view if you like it.
